Kaity I have a Whitman tattoo also! (Except yours looks a lot less like some punk kid tattooed you in his girlfriend’s bedroom… D: )
These are really the thoughts of all men in all ages and lands, they
are not original with me,
If they are not yours as much as mine they are nothing, or next to
nothing,
If they are not the riddle and the untying of the riddle they are
nothing,
If they are not just as close as they are distant they are nothing. This is the grass that grows wherever the land is and the water is,
This the common air that bathes the globe.
This is my first tattoo. I got it on my 18th birthday, a friend took this picture about an hour after I got it so it’s still pretty swollen. It was done at BPU in Fairbanks, Alaska by Pat. I got the tattoo because I grew up on Harry Potter. His stories are my childhood. I got it on my 18th birthday to symbolize the ending of my childhood. I’ve had this tattoo for about 2 hours and I absolutely love it. I’m positive I still will when I’m 85 and my arm skin is saggy!
A tattoo to match Harry’s scars!
I got my second tattoo, “whisper words of wisdom, let it be” on my ribs/ back. I wanted something to honor my parents, and this is fitting for both of them. My dad grew up in the 60s and loves the Beatles. Because of him, they are my favorite band. My mom is my best friend, and is always giving me words of wisdom. I can be a hot head sometimes and tend to over-think things, so this tattoo reminds me to just let it be. I got it done at First Class Tattoos in Long Branch, NJ, by George Garcia. He was awesome.
OMG. Not only is it a Beatles tattoo, it’s a “Let it Be” tattoo. *Gushes*
This is one of two lettering tattoos I’ve had done by Jay at The Shop in Port Jervis, NY. I wanted something to remind me of home when I go abroad to New Zealand, and what better way then quoting Lord of the Rings.
This is a wonderful Lord of the Rings text rib piece.
This is the tattoo I’ve wanted for a year. Last year, my best friend died in a car accident & I wanted something I could remember her by forever. I think this Smiths lyric couldn’t be anymore perfect. This tattoo was done by Marco at Original Tattoo in San Pedro, California.
Ahhh! I love, love, love this song and this tattoo! Eat your hearts out guys!
This is Ally’s tattoo from On the Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau:
I first saw the quote when I was about 14 or 15; it stayed with me for a long time. Nine years down the road, when I finally made up my mind to get my first tattoo, I decided on this quote because I agreed with the sentiment completely. Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains – we are all bound by something beyond our control.
A Social Contract tattoo!! I can’t contain my love!
My first tat; got it my first year of college. It’s the Golden Spiral, a spiral with a growth factor of Phi. Phi is a mathematical constant used in art, architecture, and in approximation throughout nature. The spiral represents both perfection and infinity; it’s beautiful.
Got it done at The Ink Station in Abilene, TX.
The Golden Spiral, one of the most beautiful and perfect things in existence. Love that someone got a tat!
This is my sixth tattoo done and my first done by Andrew at Tattoo Emporium in Cardiff. It wasn’t actually that bad on the ribs, (it’s on my left side) I find that getting tattoo’d hurts more on fleshy areas :)
This tattoo is inspired by Bellatrix Lestrange, my favourite character from the Harry Potter series. “I killed Sirius Black” is probably one of her most famous, if not the most, famous quote. Underneath are her runes and the year she was submitted into Azkaban; Bellatrix has these on her neck.
Nerd tattoo lovers!!! Check out this original Harry Potter tattoo. I definitely haven’t seen another one like it!
This tattoo was belongs to Christian, who says: “This is simply how I strive to live my life.”
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
- Dylan Thomas, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”
This is my third tattoo, and the second I’ve got at Dare Devil Tattoo in the LES NYC.
The line is from Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself; it goes:
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)To me it represents all the many definitions and versions of who I am, not just one fixed thing, but complex, always evolving and growing.
Beautiful tat from Song of Myself. Just lovely.
